Chronic Pain
What is Chronic Pain?
Chronic pain is considered to be symptoms that last greater than three months. Onset can occur from a variety of different causes, from traumatic episodes to gradual progression over time. Chronic or ‘persistent pain’ can be specific to a particular joint or more widespread. A common example that many experience is chronic lower back pain, that often can affect the rest of the spine, spreading to other parts of the body.
When treating this type of pain, it is important to consider the whole picture as there can frequently be several influencing factors driving the symptoms. This can include chronic muscular, degenerative or repetitive type injuries that are exacerbated by subsequent issues with sleep, work, related stress and anxiety caused by continuing pain. At Elements physiotherapy, our clinicians have a wealth of experience treating patients with chronic pain. This extends to the management of conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and persistent pain syndrome.
