Knee Pain
What is Knee Pain?
The knee is a significant joint within the human body that supports our weight during movement. Often it can be a cause of pain in a large portion of us due the nature of forces that go through it when we perform activities like walking, running, jumping and a variety of sports. Commonly the location of your pain will give some indication to the specific structures that are involved in your condition. An example of this may include injury to the soft tissues (muscle and/or tendon), which surround your knee, to more internal causes with pain along the joint line such as ligament tears or bursitis.
What to expect
Not only during movement, the knee can also cause discomfort at rest. Individuals with arthritis can experience stiffness in their joints after waking in the morning or sitting for prolonged periods. This can also be accompanied by inflammation, discoloration and joint instability. The key to management of your knee pain whatever the cause, is firstly identifying the condition you are dealing with. Within your first appointment at Elements, our physiotherapists will assess your knee and take a detailed history of the problem to help direct your rehabilitation. This could also include treatments such as taping, load management advice, tailored exercise programmes or manual therapy.
