Neck Pain
What is Neck Pain?
During simple tasks, sports and often busy/stressful days at work, the neck typically endures a significant amount of activity throughout the day. Like the rest of our spine, it functions to allow us to move freely in a variety of different directions. With this in mind, when we experience pain in this region, it can often cause disruption to our physical activity, daily function and even ability to work. Often neck pain can be challenging to manage, particularly because it is a very sensitive area and encases a large portion of our spinal nerves. Naturally this can lead us to feel at times anxious, stressed and understandably low in mood.
What to expect
In order to treat neck pain, it is important to identify the specific structures/causes of the problem to introduce the most appropriate management plan. Whether this is some that has come on gradually, out of the blue or through trauma, it is important to consider the several structures that make up the neck. This includes; spinal vertebrae, intervertebral discs, muscles, nerves and ligaments. During your initial appointment at Elements, our physiotherapists will perform a thorough examination to help identify the potential driving factors influencing your pain. This will allow us to consider what type of neck pain you have and treat it accordingly. Examples of conditions include radiculopathy, whiplash, muscular pain.
