Pre and Post Surgery Care
Corrective Surgery
Due to an unfortunate incident at home, playing sport or perhaps whilst at work, ‘corrective surgery’ takes place in response to primarily damaged bones (fractures). With these injuries, there tends to be an element of trauma often via direct impact or excessive load through the specific region. Surgery can be required to stabilise either one, multiple or sometimes complex fractures to promote healing of the damaged bone and limit the possibility of long standing issues. Examples of fractures we see post operatively at Elements can range from wrist, ankles to even back and shoulders. Treatment for these types of injury will include expert advice, support, tailored rehabilitation programmes (driven by established protocols), along with potential soft tissue massage and manual therapy to help manage pain and inflammation.
Elective Surgery
‘Elective surgery’ typically takes place often to reconstruct, repair or even joint replacements to tackle issues with damaged cartilage, ligaments, tendons or muscle tissue. This could be in response to a traumatic episode, or even a chronic issue that may have lasted for many years. When discussing this with your consultant, often the goal of this type of surgery is to reduce pain, promote movement or stabilise to reduce risk of recurring injury. In order to promote a healthy and effective recovery, physiotherapy is typically recommended to ensure your rehabilitation process is as smooth as possible post operatively.
